Chelsea's Diego Costa escapes Football Association action over alleged gesture

Chelsea striker Diego Costa will face no punishment for an alleged gesture that he made towards Everton supporters at the weekend.

The Football Association has decided not to punish Chelsea centre-forward Diego Costa for an alleged gesture aimed at Everton fans.

The incident in question took place during the interval at Goodison Park.

However, having launched an investigation, the governing body has concluded that no further action is required.

"Having considered the evidence and Diego Costa's observations in relation to a gesture the Chelsea forward made towards Everton supporters at half time of Saturday's FA Cup sixth-round tie, the FA is satisfied no further action is required," read an FA statement.

However, the organisation did confirm that Costa's misconduct charge from the same game still stands and he has until 6pm tomorrow to respond with a plea.

Chelsea, who were reduced to 10 men when Costa was red-carded in the 84th minute, lost the match 2-0.
