Chelsea score four to knock Walsall out

Second-half goals from Kenedy and Pedro helped Chelsea to a 4-1 away win over Walsall in the League Cup this evening.

Ramires opened the scoring on 10 minutes, heading in from an inviting left-wing cross by Kenedy.

Radamel Falcao came close to doubling Chelsea's advantage after picking up a through-ball from Ramires, but Walsall defender James O'Connor raced back to clear the Colombian's shot off the line.

Chelsea should have doubled their lead on 36 minutes, as Falcao had another effort cleared off the line by Paul Downing, before Remy's follow-up was deflected over the bar.

The Premier League champions did get a second goal through Remy, who picked up Ramires's perfectly-weighted pass before firing a first-time shot past Etheridge.

Walsall pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time, as Asmir Begovic parried a Lalkovic free kick before O'Connor pounced on the rebound to fire past the Bosnian keeper.

After the break Chelsea restored their two-goal cushion through young Brazilian Kenedy, who picked up a pass from Ruben Loftus-Cheek before scoring his first goal for the club.

Remy came close to netting a fourth Chelsea goal as he ran at the Saddlers' defence but his effort flashed wide, before Falcao blazed a shot wide from 16 yards.

Walsall's best opportunity of the half fell to Sawyers, who headed over the bar from an Anthony Forde corner, before Kieron Morris fired wide before the final whistle.

Chelsea wrapped up the victory with a fourth goal through Pedro, who beat two Walsall defenders before firing a shot past Etheridge from the edge of the penalty box.
