How Chelsea could line up against Morecambe

Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up for their FA Cup third-round clash with Morecambe on Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea will be determined to return to winning ways when they welcome League Two side Morecambe to Stamford Bridge for Sunday's FA Cup third-round tie.

The Blues have only managed to prevail in one of their last seven matches in all competitions and suffered a humbling 3-1 defeat at home to Manchester City in their most recent Premier League outing.

However, the visit of Morecambe represents the perfect opportunity for Frank Lampard's men to record a convincing win as they look to go one step further in the FA Cup this season, having lost to Arsenal in last year's final.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up for the visit of Morecambe, who have never advanced past the third round of the competition.

Lampard will no doubt hope to see his side run out comfortable winners in order to ease the ever-growing pressure on his shoulders, but several changes can be expected here regardless.

With Reece James still out with a hamstring problem, Cesar Azpilicueta should continue at right-back, while Emerson Palmieri is in line to displace Ben Chilwell on the opposite side of defence.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected to start and make his 100th appearance for the club on Sunday, and the Spaniard is likely to be protected by out-of-favour duo Antonio Rudiger and Fikayo Tomori, with Andreas Christensen sidelined through injury.

Several of Chelsea's highly-rated youngsters will be hoping to earn some invaluable first-team minutes against Morecambe, and one of those in Billy Gilmour could make only his second start of the season in midfield, and the 19-year-old could be partnered by the experienced Jorginho - in place of the injured N'Golo Kante - in the engine room.

Kai Havertz has flattered to deceive since his big-money move from Bayer Leverkusen and continues to struggle for starts, but Lampard may trust the 21-year-old from the first whistle in a match that could do wonders for his confidence - fans will fondly look back on his hat-trick in a 6-0 thrashing of Barnsley in the EFL Cup.

Olivier Giroud will hope to reach double figures for the season if he is chosen to lead the line over Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner, while Callum Hudson-Odoi - Chelsea's goalscorer in their weekend defeat to Man City - should come in and allow Christian Pulisic the chance to rest.
