Celtic suffer International Champions Cup defeat at hands of Inter Milan

Celtic have slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Inter Milan in Saturday's International Champions Cup clash in Limerick.

Brendan Rodgers fielded an experimental lineup as the Scottish champions took on the Nerazzurri in a fixture which came under criticism for taking place during the Premiership season and requiring a fixture, against Partick Thistle, to be postponed.

Frank de Boer's charges looked the more likely to make a breakthrough and eventually broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time, Eder nodding in from close range.

Inter remained dominant after the break, but the Hoops nearly drew level in the 59th minute, only for the crossbar to deny Nadir Ciftci, whose fine 25-yard volley had Samir Handanovic beaten.

The Italian side wrapped things up with 19 minutes to go, however, as Antonio Candreva latched on to a through-ball and lobbed Leonardo Fasan with a skilful chip on the edge of the area.
