Half-Time Report: Adam Matthews fires Celtic ahead

Adam Matthews fires the ball in from the edge of the box to give Celtic a 1-0 lead over Hamilton Academical in the Scottish Premiership.

A powerful strike from Adam Matthews has given Celtic a 1-0 lead over Hamilton Academical in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.

Celtic were pressing for an early goal, but Jason Denayer's long ball forward failed to find Matthews, while a Kris Commons free kick was easily claimed in the Hamilton goal.

Commons came close again shortly after as he tried to head in from a Stefan Johansen corner, but the striker's finish ended up in the side-netting.

Craig Gordon came under pressure down the other end as Hamilton started to see more of the ball, but the goalkeeper palmed a Tony Andreu shot clear before tipping the rebound over.

The Scottish champions took the lead just over 10 minutes before the break when Commons played the ball in for Matthews, who hit the ball first time on the edge of the box to leave Michael McGovern rooted to the spot.

Scott Brown had a chance to add a second just before the break, but his curling effort sailed well high of the crossbar.
