Brisbane Roar extend lead at top of standings with victory over Perth Glory

Brisbane Roar edge closer to becoming A-League premiers by securing a 3-1 victory over Perth Glory on home turf.

Brisbane Roar have extended their lead at the top of the A-League ladder after securing a 3-1 victory over Perth Glory at the Suncorp Stadium.

Perth took control of proceedings in the early stages by creating a handful of chances, one of which resulted in Sidnei breaking free into the box and lining up a shot.

However, he hesitated before he unleashed the ball, which allowed the goalkeeper to make a save and keep the scoreline goalless.

Brisbane found their feet in the game and dominated sections of play, but they struggled to execute their chances in the final third.

Besart Berisha was involved in the majority of Brisbane's attacks in the first half, and he was close to getting a shot at goal when Liam Miller tried to thread the ball into his feet, but Perth were able to clear.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Brisbane came out to attack in the second half and it eventually paid off as the home side broke the deadlock through Ivan Franjic.

The defender managed to find the back of the net with a powerful header from Thomas Broich's free kick, which glided into the penalty area from just outside the box.

The contest began to open up after Brisbane took the lead, with Perth creating more chances of their own, but the home side dampened their opponents' hopes of causing an upset when Miller nabbed Brisbane's second goal.

After driving into the area, Miller was able to get around goalkeeper Danny Vukovic to slam the ball into the back of the net, but Roar weren't done yet as Broich nabbed a third goal for his side with a rocket shot from outside of the box.

Despite Perth getting a goal back in injury time through Shane Smeltz, they were unable to get anything out of the contest as Brisbane saw out the victory.
