Parkinson "immensely proud" of victory

Bradford City manager Phil Parkinson has revealed his 'immense pride' after his side upset Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

The League Two outfit raced to a 3-1 first-leg win over the Premier League side at Valley Parade in the semi-finals of the competition thanks to goals from Nahki Wells, Rory McArdle and Carl McHugh.

However, Parkinson admits that he did not expect his side to put in such an outstanding performance.

When asked whether he was surprised by his team's performance, Parkinson answered: "Yes. Villa played such an attacking team and we knew we had to be good defensively, but equally there was going to be spice on the pitch when we had the ball.

"And our quality players, when they had the time, they played with a real calmness and I was delighted with that.

"I'm immensely proud of the players tonight, I thought they put in a magnificent performance from the first minute to the last."

The second leg takes place at Villa Park on Tuesday, January 22.
