Hans-Joachim Watzke: 'Shinji Kagawa, Marcos Reus can play together'

Chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke says that Shinji Kagawa and Marco Reus can both fit into the same Borussia Dortmund team.

Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has insisted that the return of Shinji Kagawa does not mean that Marco Reus is now more likely to leave the club.

Japanese playmaker Kagawa, who rejoined Dortmund on Sunday following a two-year stint with Manchester United, operates in the same part of the pitch of Reus, who throughout the summer was linked with the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal and United.

However, Watzke believes that the duo can be incorporated into the same starting lineup.

"Marco and Shinji are very well capable of playing together. We have a number of great players in midfield now. It's the perfect mix of experience, dynamic players and players who can retain possession," he told Bild.

"The stiff competition for places that everybody's been talking about is something I have yet to experience in real life. We have to get to the point where we are able to replace one or two great players each game."

Next up for Dortmund is a home encounter against SC Freiburg after the international break.
