Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels plays down talk that they will win the Champions League this season.

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has played down talk of winning the Champions League.

The German side finished top of Group D, which included fellow national champions Real Madrid, Ajax and Manchester City.

However, Hummels thinks that they are not yet strong enough to be considered one of the favourites for the tournament.

"There are maybe three or four title contenders. The usual suspects," Hummels told Kicker.

"Maybe we are directly behind them. However, we are not among the big favourites. The fact that Jose Mourinho and Alex Ferguson regard it as a possibility [however] is a real compliment for our team and the club."

Domestically, BVB trail Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich by 12 points.
