Boavista sign nine players, including former Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain squad members

Former Chelsea, PSG players among nine signed by Boavista

Boavista have announced that they have strengthened their squad with the addition of nine players.

Sitting bottom of the Primeira Liga table with just two wins from their 21 matches, the Chequered Ones have decided to take extreme action in a bid to retain their top-flight status.

Lito Vidigal was appointed as the club's new head coach as recently as Monday, the 55-year-old returning for his second stint at Estadio do Bessa.

A wide array of talent have been acquired in his 48 hours in charge, including former Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa.

While the 32-year-old made 154 appearances for the French giants, he has played just eight minutes of competitive football since the start of 2023-24.

Who else have Boavista signed?

Chelsea fans never got to see the best of Marco van Ginkel when he signed for the club in 2013, but he now gets a chance to kick-start his career in Portugal.

Van Ginkel, now 32 years of age, contributed seven goals and two assists from 30 outings in the Eredivisie for Vitesse during 2023-24.

Goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik, formerly of Sevilla, Olympiacos and Huddersfield Town, has been brought in to strengthen the club's options between the sticks.

Canada international Steven Vitoria, a stalwart of Portuguese football, has been signed to add experience at centre-back.

Former QPR man signs

Former Queens Park Rangers full-back Osman Kakay is another notable addition, the 27-year-old having made 113 appearances at Loftus Road.

Cameroonian centre-back Sidoine Fogning links up with the Boavista squad, as does defensive-minded Vitalii Lystov who has previously played 62 times for Benfica 'B'.

Moussa Kone, formerly of Nimes and FC Zurich, is expected to make an impact in the final third, while ex-Leeds United trainee and former Chesterfield winger Gboly Ariyibi completes the list.

Every player is eligible to feature in Friday's home encounter against Estrela Amadora.
