Toby Alderweireld backs Wales to qualify for Euro 2016

Alderweireld backs Wales to qualify for Euro 2016

Belgium defender Toby Alderweireld has warned his teammates that they cannot be solely occupied with halting Gareth Bale in Cardiff later this week.

The Red Devils take on Wales in a crucial Euro 2016 qualifying fixture, knowing that victory will put them in command at the top of the Group B standings.

Chris Coleman's Wales have also enjoyed an impressive first half to the campaign, winning three and drawing two of their opening five games on the road to France.

Alderweireld, who impressed on loan at Southampton last season, is now expecting a tough test in the Welsh capital on Friday night.

"They have the quality to qualify, but we want to go through in first place," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "It's going to be difficult, they have good players and we are both first in the group.

"They keep getting better and better every season, so I'm not surprised. Of course Gareth Bale is an exceptional player, but they have a lot of other good players like [Aaron] Ramsey and good quality at the back with Ashley Williams.

"It's going to be tough, especially away there. We have to be at our best to win but we are confident."

Belgium, now ranked at number two in the world, warmed up for their meeting with Wales by beating France 4-3 at the Stade de France on Sunday night.
