Bayer Leverkusen appoint Roger Schmidt as manager

Schmidt appointed Leverkusen boss

Bayer Leverkusen have announced the appointment of Red Bull Salzburg boss Roger Schmidt as the club's new manager.

The 47-year-old will replace ex-Liverpool captain Sami Hyypia, who was sacked earlier this month, at the end of the season.

Schmidt, who has signed a two-year contract with the Bundesliga outfit, will finish the campaign at Salzburg, who have clinched the Austrian title.

Leverkusen, who are currently fourth in the league table, are under the leadership of caretaker coach Sacha Lewandowski.
