Win against Rennes lifts Bastia off the foot of the table

Bastia move off the foot of the Ligue 1 table with a 2-0 win at home to 10-man Rennes.

Bastia have climbed off the bottom of Ligue 1 with a comprehensive 2-0 win against Rennes.

The visitors suffered a setback in the 24th minute when Fallou Diagne was shown a straight red card for a foul on Guillaume Gillet, and their opponents soon made their numerical advantage count.

Bastia edged their noses in front on the stroke of half time as Ryad Boudebouz fired into the top corner from outside the area, after collecting as pass from Yannick Cahuzac.

Having edged the second half, the home side made sure of the points nine minutes from time when Cahuzac smashed a vicious effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the box, following a swift break.

The win moves Bastia above Caen in the table on goal difference, leaving them in the drop zone by just three points.
