Barnsley have earned themselves three points with a 1-0 win over Peterborough United this afternoon, despite having Nathan Doyle sent off mid-way through the first half.
After a strong start from Peterborough, it was Barnsley who opened the scoring on 22 minutes. After the Posh lost possession in midfield, Doyle broke down the left before hitting a low cross to David Cotterill, whose swerving strike went off the post and in.
Moments later, Tommy Rowe fired well wide with a left-foot strike after some hesitation at the back from the home side.
On 32 minutes, Barnsley were reduced to ten men after Doyle was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Lee Tomlin.
Tomlin soon tested David Button with a powerful half-volley, though the goalkeeper was equal to it.
Craig Davies then wasted a chance to make it 2-0 to Barnsley, with the striker putting his header wide from six yards after the ball was put in from a free kick.
The score stayed 1-0 as the sides went in at half time, with the away side unable to capitalise on the sending-off.
As the second half began, Peterborough struggled to create anything going forward other than a volley from Emile Sinclair that went wide on 70 minutes.
Barnsley came close to doubling their lead again after Scott Golbourne fired an ambitious effort wide of the post.
The home side saw out the game and battled hard to claim all three points.
