Barcelona came from behind to record a 3-1 victory over promoted outfit Real Oviedo in La Liga on Thursday night.
Alberto Reina's long-range effort had sent Real Oviedo into a shock lead against the reigning champions, but the scores were level early in the second period when Eric Garcia converted from close range.
Robert Lewandowski then headed a searching cross from Frenkie de Jong into the back of the net before Ronald Araujo added a late third to secure a valuable three points for Barcelona in their bid to stay in touch with division leaders Real Madrid.
Barcelona are second in the La Liga table, two points behind first-placed Real Madrid, while Real Oviedo sit 18th, having collected only three points from their opening six matches of the 2025-26 campaign.
SPORTS MOLE'S VERDICT
It was not quite vintage Barcelona on Thursday night, but it would have been an absolute disaster if the Catalan giants had failed to collect all three points against Real Oviedo.
That is by no means a reflection on Real Oviedo as a team, as the promoted outfit have shown a lot of positive signs this season, and that was again the case in this match, but Barcelona simply cannot afford to be dropping points in these sort of matches due to Real Madrid's incredible start to the season.
Barcelona will be hoping for a favour from Atletico Madrid in the Madrid derby this weekend, but the Catalan side are only two points behind the leaders heading into the next set of fixtures.
Head coach Hansi Flick had to call in the cavalry in the second half, with De Jong and then Lewandowski entering, and the pair combined for Barcelona's second of the match.
Only the win mattered for Barcelona here, but they desperately missed star man Lamine Yamal, with the teenager once again unavailable for selection due to a calf problem.
