Austria Vienna secure first Champions League win

Austria Vienna record their first ever win in the Champions League, comfortably dispatching Zenit St Petersburg 4-1.

Austria Vienna have secured their first ever win in the Champions League after beating Zenit St Petersburg 4-1 at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion tonight.

The Austrian outfit, whose five previous fixtures in Europe's elite competition had not yielded a victory, had to recover from a goal deficit to mark their first win in the tournament.

Alexander Kerzhakov - Zenit's record goalscorer in European competition - opened the scoring 10 minutes from the interval by rounding goalkeeper Heinz Lindner and tapping into an empty net.

However, the hosts hit back on the stroke of half time through Philipp Hosiner, who casually stroked home the equaliser.

Vienna picked up where they left off prior to the break and took the lead three minutes into the second half, as Tomas Jun tapped home a Markus Suttner from close range.

It soon got worse for Luciano Spalletti's men, as Hosiner provided a two-goal margin in the scoreline by converting a rebound.

Roman Kienast secured the points in the closing stages as the hosts recorded a historic win in the Champions League.
