Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera will be out of action for up to six weeks after undergoing surgery on a sports hernia.
The 23-year-old, who was part of Spain's Olympic football squad at London 2012, was successfully operated on in Munich earlier today.
A statement on the club's official website read: "If there are no complications in the post-op period, the player will be discharged on Saturday, September 8 and will return to his home.
"The recovery period for this type of operation is between four and six weeks."
Herrera made 32 La Liga appearances last season, scoring one goal.
