New Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia open to rebranding Villa Park

New Aston Villa owner Tony Xia reveals that he is considering rebranding Villa Park.

New Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has claimed that he is considering rebranding Villa Park by incorporating the name of his health food business Lotus Health.

The 39-year-old Chinese businessman completed the purchase of the newly-relegated Championship club on Thursday.

It is believed that Xia, who has taken 100% control of the club, bought the Midlands outfit for £60m.

Villa's new owner told the Beijing Times: "One of the things we have thought about is using the Lotus Health name to rebrand Villa Park.

"Villa Park is a very historical stadium, so we will not simply and callously destroy a club's history. We want to use Villa's history and its' substantial fan base around the world to also promote Lotus Health products and services globally.

"The ideal scenario would be for fans to enjoy Lotus Health products at Lotus Villa Park, it would be a great great advert for both brands."

Previous owner Randy Lerner put the club up for sale in 2014.
