Dunne receives dubious honour

Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne has become the holder of the record for the most Premier League own goals.

The Irish international picked up the ninth own goal of his top flight career during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with QPR after deflecting a cross from Heidar Helguson into his own net in injury time.

"It was ironic that two of our best players - Dunne and Stephen Warnock - were caught up in the equalising goal. I felt sorry for them," Villa boss Alex McLeish commented after the match.

The 32-year-old moved to Villa in 2009 after making 296 appearances for Manchester City.
