Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur open to paying £50m for RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano?

Arsenal, Spurs to move for Upamecano?

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to make formal bids for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano during the January transfer window.

Since moving to the German club in 2017, Upamecano has established himself as one of the top young centre-backs in European football, contributing to guiding Leipzig into first place in the Bundesliga table.

As a result of also helping his team into the last 16 of the Champions League, the 21-year-old is valued in the region of £50m.

However, according to The Express, the Gunners and Spurs are willing to pay that fee in order to strengthen their struggling backlines.

The North London rivals have conceded 30 and 29 goals respectively from 20 Premier League fixtures, leading to fresh faces in that area of the pitch being regarded as a priority.

While Leipzig are said to accept that they may have to cash in on one of their key men, much could depend on whether the Frenchman would prefer to see out the campaign at his current club.
