Olivier Giroud: 'It was important for me to perform well in France friendly'

Olivier Giroud says that it was "important" for him to perform well for his country after scoring twice in France's victory over Denmark.

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has claimed that it was "important" for him to put in a good performance for France following a seven-month goal drought for his country.

The 29-year-old managed to score two goals inside six minutes to give France a 2-1 victory over Denmark in Sunday's friendly.

"We made a very good start to the game, all together," Giroud told L'Equipe. "There were some very good things in the first half, even the second, but [we] failed to drive the point and in the end we conceded this goal late in the game.

"This is a small problem, but we will retain that fourth straight victory, which had not happened for three years. It was important for me to make a good game, to be decisive."

At club level, Giroud has dropped behind Theo Walcott in the pecking order.
