Iwobi: 'Winning group is big advantage'

Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi has talked up the importance of his side finishing top of their Champions League group.

The Gunners looked on course for another runner-up finish heading into the final round of fixtures, but a 4-1 victory over Basel coupled with a surprise draw between Paris Saint-Germain and Ludogorets Razgrad ensured that Arsenal topped the pile.

It is the first time that Arsenal have won their Champions League group since 2012 and, with a home second leg now guaranteed in the last 16, Iwobi is hopeful that his side can end a six-year wait to reach the quarter-finals.

"We saw the scores at half time when we were walking into the dressing room. It gave us that extra belief so we just had to maintain our positive approach. We dropped off a bit which is why we conceded, but we still completed the job," he told the club's official website.

"Having a second leg at home is a big advantage. It gives you the belief that you can do it. However, the Champions League is full of top teams.

"[My goal] felt like a long time coming and it's always a great feeling to score a goal, but I'm just pleased with the team's performance and that we were able to finish top of the group."

The draw for the last 16 will take place in Nyon on Monday.
