Samir Nasri links up with former teammate Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht

The Belgian is now managing in his homeland.

Samir Nasri will link up with former Manchester City team-mate Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht, who announced the capture of the winger on a free transfer.

Nasri was released by West Ham at the end of last season but has put pen to paper on a 12-month deal at Anderlecht with an option to stay for an additional year.

The Frenchman will join Kompany at the Belgian club after the defender took up an offer to become player-manager at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium following more than a decade at City.

"I received a number of great offers, but in the end I chose RSC Anderlecht with a great deal of conviction," Nasri said on the club's official website.

"I absolutely want to help Vincent and the club to succeed in their set-up.

"Vincent Kompany was my team-mate at City between 2011 and 2017. I know him through and through and know which project he has in mind with Anderlecht.

"Together with him and the entire team I want to do everything to make this a success."

Nasri made more than 100 appearances during his six years at the Etihad Stadium after moving to the north-west from Arsenal in 2011, helping City to two Premier League titles and one League Cup.

A short stint at Turkish side Antalyaspor followed before he served an 18-month doping ban for using an intravenous drip treatment.

He made only six appearances for the Hammers after joining them at the start of the year on a short-term contract and the former French international's deal was not renewed.

Nevertheless, Anderlecht are convinced the 32-year-old has plenty more to offer.

Anderlecht chairman Marc Coucke said: "At Anderlecht, we draw the card of the youth, which we want to give plenty of opportunities to develop. But they can only succeed if you also surround them well on and next to the field.

"Nasri is a real winner who will give these boys experience and who can also effectively lift them to a higher level by continuously training and playing with the youngsters.

"We are proud that a player of his level chooses Anderlecht."
