Alloa Athletic close gap with comfortable Dumbarton win

Alloa Athletic record a 3-0 win over Dumbarton in the Scottish Championship.

Alloa Athletic went to within two points of Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Championship with a 3-0 win over Dumbarton this afternoon.

The home side had the lead on seven minutes when Ian Flannigan curled home a free kick after Ryan McCord had been tripped on the edge of the box.

Michael Chopra came close to doubling Alloa's tally shortly after but his effort was well blocked by Jordan Kirkpatrick.

However, there was little Dumbarton could do to deny Kevin Cawley extending the lead on 21 minutes, as the midfielder made it 2-0 with a superb strike from around 25 yards.

After the break, Archie Campbell's good work went unrewarded when he put an inviting cross into the box only to see none of his teammates attacking the ball.

Greig Spence made the result secure after the hour mark when he lifted the ball over the goalkeeper before nodding into an empty net.
