Lee Hughes earns draw for Forest Green Rovers

Forest Green come from behind to secure a 1-1 draw with Aldershot Town in the Conference Premier.

A second-half goal from Lee Hughes secured a 1-1 draw for Forest Green Rovers in their Conference Premier match against Aldershot Town this evening.

Hughes and Jon Parkin threatened up front early on for Forest Green, but the visitors were unable to take advantage of their early dominance.

However, the hosts started to see more of the ball and almost took the lead when Jaydon Gibbs crossed the ball in for Jordan Roberts, but the striker could not get his head to the delivery.

Phil Smith had to remain alert in the Aldershot goal as Hughes continued to push for an opener, but the forward's finish lacked power, giving the keeper a comfortable save, before denying Parkin a few minutes later.

However, Aldershot took the lead shortly before the break when they were awarded a penalty after David Pipe brought down Roberts, with Brett Williams converting from the spot kick.

Mark Molesley tried to set up Sam Hatton to double the lead early in the second half, but the midfielder drilled his shot just wide.

The miss proved costly a couple of minutes later as the visitors won a corner down the other end of the pitch, allowing Rob Sinclair to deliver the ball for Hughes to head in the equaliser.

Anthony Tonkin almost set up a second for the home side, but his ball into the box failed to find any of his teammates.

Dan Fitchett provided a late threat for the hosts after replacing Williams for the final 10 minutes, but was unable to put the team back in front late on, ensuring that the match finished in a draw.
