Rangers through to Scottish Cup semi-finals

Rangers through to semi-finals

Rangers have made it through to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup courtesy of a 2-0 win over Albion Rovers in their quarter-final replay this evening.

The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute as Callum Gallagher's cross was met by Fraser Aird, who cushioned his volley past Neil Parry and into the back of the net.

Albion almost pulled a goal back within 10 minutes when they had a shooting chance inside the box, but Cameron Bell proved to be equal to the effort.

Bilel Mohsni almost doubled Rangers' lead in the 27th minute when the ball bounced kindly up for him to volley, but his strike flew wide of the post.

The next threat to the Rovers goal came from one of their own players as Ian Black's free kick glanced off the head of Ciaran Donnelly and deflected just wide.

The visitors came close to grabbing a second four minutes before half time when Richard Foster's ball across the box was dummied by Jon Daly for Gallagher, but his eventual shot was saved.

Rangers' nerves were finally settled in the 57th minute when Daly rose highest inside the box to nod a cross home, giving the League One side a bit of breathing space.

It was almost three moments later as Gallagher tested Parry with a low strike, while the Albion keeper had to be even more alert shortly afterwards when his reactions kept out a deflected Donnelly clearance.

Rangers could not find another goal in the closing stages, however, as they were forced to settle for a 2-0 win that sets up a semi-final showdown with Dundee United next month.
