Romania's Tiberiu Dolniceanu: 'Heat played a part in final defeat'

Romania's Tiberiu Dolniceanu has revealed that the heat played a part in his defeat to Ukraine's Andriy Yagodka in the gold-medal match of the men's individual sabre at the European Games.

The 27-year-old was forced to settle for the silver medal as he went down 15-10 to Yagodka, but Dolniceanu has confessed that he found it difficult to concentrate in Crystal Hall in Baku.

He told reporters: "It is ok. I was feeling good. I wanted to take any medal, they are big. I felt tired. It was really hot out there and I was unable to concentrate."

Romania have won nine medals in Baku.
