Scott Waites seals first BDO world title

Scott Waites has clinched the BDO World Championship with a crushing 7-1 victory over Tony O'Shea in the Lakeside final.

The 35-year-old, who had previously never been past the quarter-finals at Frimley Green, lost just five sets on his way to landing his first-ever world crown.

"I'm chuffed to bits," said Waites. "It is what everybody aspires to win, and I've done it now.

"All I was trying to do was batter away and get a few sets in front of Tony. Tony didn't look like his normal self, but I'm quite happy with that!"

Waites won the Grand Slam of Darts - a crossover tournament featuring players from both the BDO and PDC - back in 2010.
