Michael van Gerwen wins Players Championship title

Michael van Gerwen wins the Players Championship Finals with an 11-3 victory over Dave Chisnall in Minehead.

Michael van Gerwen has won yet another televised title with victory at the Players Championship Finals in Minehead.

The world number one has dominated on the PDC Tour in 2016, and he added another trophy to his collection with an 11-3 victory over Dave Chisnall.

Van Gerwen had experienced a huge scare in the semi-finals as he came back from 6-0 down to beat Darren Webster 11-8 but there were no such issues in the final.

Chisnall won two of the opening five legs but after missing a chance to level the match, the St Helens thrower was overpowered and Van Gerwen eased to a quick-fire win.

Van Gerwen has won 25 titles this year and he now awaits the draw for the World Championship, which takes place on Monday afternoon.
