Van Gerwen, Lewis ease through in Matchplay

Michael van Gerwen has remained on course to retain his World Matchplay title with an 11-3 victory over Kyle Anderson.

The world number one stormed into a 5-0 lead and although Anderson stopped the rot with a 160 checkout, that was as good as it got as Van Gerwen coasted through to a last-eight showdown with Dave Chisnall.

The St Helens thrower averaged just below 100 as he eased to an 11-2 win over Robert Thornton in the opening match of the night.

Adrian Lewis is also through to the quarter-finals after he came through his grudge match with Gerwyn Price by an 11-5 scoreline.

The pair had exchanged words over the past 48 hours but it was Lewis who prevailed from a poor encounter to set up a clash with Peter Wright, who survived a late surge from Ian White to run out an 11-6 victor.
