Van Gerwen edges out White to reach Matchplay semis

Michael van Gerwen has reached the semi-finals of the World Matchplay after prevailing past Ian White in a thrilling encounter in Blackpool.

White stunned the world number one by racing into a 6-1 advantage before Van Gerwen recovered to level the match at 7-7.

After falling 12-10 down, White reeled off three successive legs to move within touching distance of a last-four spot before Van Gerwen finished strongly to win 16-13 in a see-saw contest that included 22 maximums.

Van Gerwen will play Peter Wright for a place in Sunday's final after he made light work of Welshman Gerwyn Price.

Price had defeated Adrian Lewis on Tuesday evening but he couldn't repeat that performance as he quickly fell 10-2 behind to the fifth seed.

The world number 46 improved to share the following 10 legs but that was as good as it got as Wright eased to a 16-7 victory.
