Michael van Gerwen continues progress at European Championship

Michael van Gerwen eases past Cristo Reyes to reach the last eight of the European Championship in Belgium.

Michael van Gerwen has remained on course to successfully defend his European title with a 10-3 victory against Cristo Reyes in the last 16.

The world number one averaged 106.81 as he comfortably progressed past his Spanish opponent, who had impressed during the first round.

Jelle Klaasen caused the upset of the night, hitting six maximums on the way to a 10-5 triumph over James Wade.

Phil Taylor is through to the last eight after withstanding a mid-match comeback from Michael Smith, who hit back from 4-0 down to make it 6-5.

Smith had three darts to make it 6-6, but after that opening went begging, Taylor reeled off four successive legs to move through to a match with Adrian Lewis.

Home favourite Kim Huybrechts missed out on a place in the quarter-finals after Peter Wright hit checkouts of 116 and 101 respectively to run out a 10-8 victor.
