Michael van Gerwen reeled off six consecutive legs to beat Adrian Lewis 9-6 in the last 16 of the Players Championship Finals on Saturday night.

The top seed, who produced a three-dart average of 107 and a 50% success rate on doubles, will face Wes Newton in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

Lewis found the target with each of his first four attempts at doubles to move 4-2 in front in Minehead.

The two-time world champion, who averaged 104.48 and hit seven maximums, then secured another break to extend his lead to 6-3.

Lewis's form did not dip, but Van Gerwen managed to find another gear and he stormed to victory, taking out 124 and 112 in the final two legs of the match.
