Phil Taylor wins Grand Slam of Darts

Phil 'The Power' Taylor wins his fifth Grand Slam of Darts title by beating Robert Thornton 16-6 in Wolverhampton.

Phil Taylor has won his fifth Grand Slam of Darts title by beating Robert Thornton in a one-sided final in Wolverhampton.

Taylor had recorded a three-dart average of 109.76 during his semi-final win over Adrian Lewis, but a modest 98.14 was enough to see the 53-year-old defeat Thornton 16-6.

Thornton missed nine darts to break Taylor's throw in the opening leg before 'The Power' punished him and then raced into a 5-0 lead.

The Scot held throw in legs six and eight with an 11-darter and 116 checkout respectively. He then broke Taylor in leg 11 with a 121 finish on the bullseye.

However, Taylor won eight of the next 11 legs to seal the £100,000 top prize, taking out 164 and 98 in the process.

Taylor has now won 27 consecutive matches since losing 10-5 to Ronny Huybrechts in the second round of the European Championship in July.
