James Wade ends Phil Taylor streak at World Matchplay

James Wade beats Phil Taylor 17-14 to end the defending champion's 38-match winning streak at the World Matchplay.

James Wade has held his nerve to record a 17-14 victory over Phil Taylor to reach the World Matchplay final.

Before their last-four contest, Taylor had recorded 38 successive wins at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool but Wade ended the Stoke-on-Trent thrower's streak by hitting double 20 on his 10th match dart.

Taylor had the better of the opening stages as he opened up a 5-3 advantage, but missed doubles cost the 15-time champion and Wade moved 9-7 ahead at the halfway stage.

The left-hander extended his advantage to 13-10 and Taylor was unable to respond as Wade, the champion in 2007, moved to within one leg of victory at 16-12.

The drama wasn't over, though, as Wade missed eight match darts to allow Taylor to remain in the match, but despite the former world number one getting to within two legs, Wade dominated the 31st leg to take out double 20 at the second time of asking.
