Martin Adams's run at the Grand Slam of Darts has come to an end after he suffered a 10-9 defeat to Kim Huybrechts.
The three-time Lakeside champion has revelled in his first appearance at the cross-code event in Wolverhampton, but he was unable to prevail in a dramatic clash with his Belgian opponent.
Huybrechts established leads of 6-3 and 9-7 before Adams levelled the match after 18 legs, only to see Huybrechts finish the decider in 13 darts with Adams left on 80.
PDC world number one Michael van Gerwen will face Huybrechts in the last eight after averaging over 109 in a 10-2 demolition of Steve Beaton.
The other quarter-final contest will feature Adrian Lewis and Michael Smith after they both impressed on Thursday evening.
Lewis recorded a 62% checkout rate on his doubles to beat Peter Wright 10-7, while Smith hit nine maximums on the way to a 10-7 triumph over fellow St Helens thrower Dave Chisnall.
