Ashton beats Hedman in women's BDO final

Lisa Ashton has been crowned the 2014 BDO World Darts women's champion.

The 43-year-old staged a dramatic comeback to win her first world title by beating Deta Hedman in Saturday's final.

Top seed and world number one Hedman won the first two sets and led 2-1 in the third, before Ashton reeled off five consecutive legs to level the match at two sets all.

Hedman briefly managed to halt Ashton's charge by winning leg two of the final set, but the 'Lancashire Rose' hit double six to seal leg three and then double 10 for the trophy.

Ashton recorded a three-dart average of 84.81, while Hedman, who has now lost two world finals in three years, averaged 77.79.

Earlier on Saturday, Ashton came from a set down to win her semi-final against three-time champion Anastasia Dobromyslova, who missed six match darts.

Hedman's last-four clash was a straightforward 2-0 win over Denmark's Ann Louise Peters.
