Wright predicts tough Anderson test

Peter Wright is expecting a tough battle when he comes up against fellow Scotsman Gary Anderson in the quarter-finals of the PDC World Championships this evening.

The 44-year-old is looking to go one better than last year, when he reached the final only to lose out to world number one Michael van Gerwen.

His last-eight opponent is currently seen as one of the strongest forces in the game having reached three major semi-finals in the past 12 months as well as claiming the Players Championship crown.

"Gary is the man in form this year," Wright is quoted as saying by the Daily Record. "He's been the best player and I haven't been at my best yet. It could be a brilliant match. I'll be playing well and he'll be playing fantastic darts so it will be one helluva battle."

Reigning champ Van Gerwen or Robert Thornton await in the next round, with the pair meeting later today at Alexandra Palace.
