Peter Wright: 'I never gave up'

Peter Wright reacts to his defeat to Michael van Gerwen in the final of the PDC World Championship.

Peter Wright has insisted that he continued to battle until the death during his defeat to Michael van Gerwen in the final of the PDC World Championship.

The Scot won the the fifth, sixth, ninth and 10th sets, but lost the match 7-4.

Wright was quick to pay tribute to the crowd at Alexandra Palace, and congratulate his opponent in the wake of the contest.

"I never give up - that's my game. The crowd got behind me and made me play - but well done Michael," BBC Sport quotes him as saying.

Van Gerwen's victory sees him replace Phil Taylor at the top of the world rankings for the first time since 2008.
