Michael van Gerwen has hit a nine-dart finish in his PDC World Championship semi-final against James Wade at Alexandra Palace.

It is only the sixth time in the tournament's 34-year history that the feat has been achieved.

The Dutchman almost threw another perfect leg with his next attempt, but he failed with the final throw.

Dean Winstanley recorded a nine-darter earlier in this year's competition during his second-round clash with Vincent van der Voort.
