Van Gerwen defeats Lewis in Dublin

World champion Adrian Lewis has been knocked out of the PDC World Grand Prix after he was defeated 3-1 by Michael van Gerwen.

The Dutchman whitewashed Lewis in the opening set before keeping his composure to seal an impressive win on double 16 to move through to a last-eight tie with Andy Hamilton.

Hamilton twice had to fight back from behind to defeat Steve Beaton 3-2 in the opening match of the night.

Paul Nicholson made it through to the quarter-finals in Dublin for the first time with a 3-1 win over Colin Osborne.

He will now face Wes Newton, who sealed a 3-1 victory over Raymond van Barneveld's conqueror, Ian White.
