Robert Thornton "looking forward" to Premier League clash

Robert Thornton aims to get his Betway Premier League campaign up and running with victory against fellow Scot Gary Anderson in Belfast tonight.

Robert Thornton has admitted that he is relishing the opportunity to face compatriot Gary Anderson in tonight's Betway Premier League clash.

The Scot, who is languishing at the bottom end of the table after two games, is looking to get his campaign up and running with a victory in Belfast.

"It's always special for me playing another Scottish player on the big stage," the 46-year-old is quoted as saying by The Scotsman. "Playing Gary last year seemed to bring the best out of me. I was on fire when we played last year and I'll need to get back towards that form again because Gary's been in top form in the last few weeks.

"I made my Premier League debut in Belfast last year too and beat Andy Hamilton that day, so I've got good memories going back there. Hopefully I'll be leaving with a smile on my face too. I've been hitting my doubles well and I'm really enjoying my darts at the moment, and that's making me look forward to the Premier League nights.

"An all-Scottish game with Robert will be fun too and I'm really looking forward to it. It's an important game for Robert too so I'm sure we'll be getting stuck into each other."

Adrian Lewis and Michael van Gerwen top the Premier League table at this early stage.
