Phil Taylor expects tough match with Jyhan Artut

Sixteen-time winner Phil Taylor believes that he will be in for a tough match when he opens his PDC World Championship campaign against Jyhan Artut.

Phil Taylor has indicated that he won't take Jyhan Artut lightly when they meet in the first round of the PDC World Championship.

Artut is no stranger to the Alexandra stage, having defeated Wayne Mardle in 2010 and coming within a leg of beating Gary Anderson in 2012, and Taylor, a 16-time world champion, has admitted that he is expecting a difficult test against the German.

The 54-year-old told PDC.tv: "Jyhan's a really good player and he's had some good results this year so I know it's going to be a tough match.

"I've got a couple of weeks to get ready for the tournament now and I'm really looking forward to it."

By his own standards, Taylor has endured an average year on the PDC Tour but that hasn't stopped him winning the World Matchplay and Grand Slam of Darts.
