Taylor books quarter-final slot

Phil Taylor has progressed to the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts with a comprehensive 10-3 victory over Wes Newton.

The 15-time world champion averaged over 112 as he overpowered Newton to set up a last-eight match with Paul Nicholson.

Nicholson recorded six legs in a row to hit back from 6-3 down to move 9-6 up against Steve Beaton, before he finally won 10-8.

Adrian Lewis will meet Mark Webster in the next round after both came through contrasting second round tussles.

Lewis had raced into an 8-2 lead against John Part but was made to work hard by the Canadian before finally sealing a 10-8 win.

Webster appeared to be heading out of the Grand Slam as he trailed 8-6 to Martin Phillips but he capitalised on some poor finishing from Phillips to record a 10-8 triumph.
