Newton, Anderson eliminated from PL

Wes Newton and Gary Anderson have been eliminated from the Premier League after they finished in the bottom two places of the 10-man table.

Both players needed to win to stand any chance of survival, but Newton fell to a 7-5 defeat to Andy Hamilton, while Anderson was overpowered by James Wade, with the left-hander earning a 7-3 win.

Those results ensured that Adrian Lewis retained his place in the league, despite losing 7-2 to Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld.

Simon Whitlock had also found his place at risk at the beginning of the night, but other results meant that his 7-3 defeat to Michael van Gerwen didn't signal his exit from the competition.

In the other game of the night, Robert Thornton produced a scintillating display to earn a 7-4 triumph over Phil Taylor, who slips to fifth place in the table.
