James Wilson: 'Winning BDO World Trophy feels amazing'

James Wilson has expressed his delight at winning the first ever Daily Mirror BDO World Trophy.

The BDO world number one secured his name in the history books by beating Ross Montgomery 13-11 in Sunday's final at the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool.

"To win this, the first ever one, you would not believe what it means to me," Wilson told the tournament sponsors.

"I came here this weekend after having a few up and down games, but I continued to fight back and fight back, and now to be a champion feels amazing.

"Hopefully I will keep going and keep going and when we go to Lakeside, I will still be number one and lift that trophy."

Wilson earned £30,000 for winning the event, while runner-up Montgomery picked up £12,000.
