Max Hopp: 'I didn't expect to beat Mervyn King'

German teenager Max Hopp has revealed that he didn't expect to prevail from his first-round encounter with Mervyn King at the PDC World Championship.

The 18-year-old averaged nearly 97 to record a 3-2 victory over the 10th seed, who was suffering with a back problem, and the youngster admitted that wrapping up victory with a 161 checkout had left him speechless.

Hopp told PDC.tv: "I think that I played well. I didn't expect to win the match because he's a brilliant player but I just had a little feeling that I could do well.

"When I had that 161, I just had a feeling that it was going to go in, so I just thought just go for it and when it went in, it was just amazing. I don't really have words for it."

Hopp, who in beating King also secured his PDC Tour Card for 2015, will play Vincent van der Voort in the last 32.
