Stephen Bunting excited ahead of Phil Taylor clash

2014 Lakeside champion Stephen Bunting admits that his match in Liverpool against Phil Taylor is the highlight of his debut campaign in the Premier League.

Stephen Bunting has admitted that it would be "incredible" to earn a victory over Phil Taylor when they meet in the Premier League in Liverpool on Thursday night.

The Liverpudlian, who won the Lakeside title in 2014, has made huge progress since switching to the PDC, and ahead of his meeting with the 16-time world champion, the world number 24 has revealed that he is relishing the chance to compete in front of his home crowd.

The 29-year-old told PDC.tv: "When the fixtures were announced, playing in Liverpool against Phil Taylor jumped out at me. The crowd is going to be buzzing.

"I'll have family and friends there and I can't wait to get up there against the best player who's ever walked on this planet. I'll try my best and it would be incredible to beat him.

"You know that Phil's a fighter and he's one of the best players in the world, if not the best, and I've just got to make sure that I produce my best on the night to get the victory. I know that I've got the game to beat any player, and it's about taking that onto stage. It's going to be a wonderful night."

Bunting's opening two matches have seen him draw 6-6 with James Wade before falling to a 7-3 defeat to world number one Michael van Gerwen.
