Anderson beats Lewis in battle of world champions

Gary Anderson has booked his spot in the PDC World Championship third round with a 3-1 comeback victory over Adrian Lewis.

In the battle of the former world champions, Lewis had the edge during the opening set as both players took time to warm into the contest at Alexandra Palace.

However, Anderson found some rhythm in the second set, and that continued in the third and fourth as he wrapped up what eventually turned out to be a comfortable win, hitting almost half of his 23 attempts at double.

The Scot, who is the sixth seed, will now take on either Ian White or Chris Landman for a place in the last 16.

Earlier in the night, former BDO ladies champion Lisa Ashton succumbed to a 3-0 defeat to Ron Meulenkamp, losing her PDC Tour Card in the process.

William O'Connor won a 3-2 thriller with Dan Lauby Jnr, withstanding a comeback from the American before prevailing in a last leg, while Ryan Meikle comfortably defeated German teenager Fabian Schmutzler.
