Patrick Hickey: Presenting first medal "a great honour"

President of the European Olympic Committees Patrick Hickey has said that it was "a great honour" to present the first medals at the inaugural European Games in Baku.

The Irish IOC member, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the Games, presented the medals to the top three in the women's mountain bike competition, which was won by Switzerland's Jolanda Neff.

Hickey told reporters: "It was a great honour at the inaugural European Games to present the first medal. I feel I have got a place in history and I'm very proud of it.

"I think it is fantastic. I was just speaking to the president of the international cycling federation and he is extremely happy with it."

Hickey represented Ireland internationally in judo.
